Overview
Did you know the Big Island is home to one of the most active volcanoes in the world? Kīlauea, the youngest and most active volcano on the island, continues to shape and reshape the landscape today.
This epic adventure begins with a scenic two-hour drive over Saddle Road — with a fun stop along the way to stretch our legs and play some games! Once we arrive at Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, we’ll explore a trail dotted with steam vents and learn about the volcanic forces that created the Hawaiian Islands.
We’ll take a short but steep hike down into a crater, walk through a real lava tube, and see lava tree molds left behind by ancient flows. And if we’re lucky, we might even get to witness live lava activity from the safety of Volcano House! After a day of discovery, we’ll head back across the island with memories of an unforgettable journey into the heart of Hawai‘i’s volcanic landscape.
Note: Due to the length and physical rigor of this adventure, students must be 13 years and older to participate.
