Overview

Adventure Details

Get ready to dive into discovery! This ocean-themed adventure begins with a short walk along the Kona coast, where students will explore tide pools and learn about ocean tides, intertidal zones, and how people impact the marine environment.

Using a fun science tool called transect sampling, students will act like real marine ecologists — observing ocean plants and animals, and recording what they find in their field journals. They’ll collect a few creatures and learn how different species live together in these amazing shoreline habitats.  Every animal we find will be carefully returned to its tide pool home!

To top it off, we’ll visit a local seahorse farm, where students will learn about these fascinating, delicate creatures — and even get to hold one! It’s the perfect way to end a day full of wonder and ocean science.
